Falling Back Into Fandom

I’ve always been a bit of a closet geek. I enjoy watching TV and usually have a favorite show every few years that I just love until I lose interest and then move on to doing something else for a while. My most current TV loves are Supernatural and Wynonna Earp. Although season 2 of Earp isn’t pulling my interest in so far as much as season 1 did.

See There's Yoga Involved on Supernatural

(In case anyone wonders why I watch Supernatural)

Supernatural was something I had in on the background for a while but somewhere along the way it sucked me in and I became a fan. I actually want to save up to go to one of their conventions either this year or next year I’m that into it.

The few years before that, I was into the Walking Dead. I lost interest at the end of season 6 and still haven’t watched all but the 1st episode of season 7.

Sometimes you lose the fantasy of the storyline and see the formula they put a show through week after week and once that little magical thing is broken, you quickly lose interest in the show.

My first big TV love was CSI and I was hooked for 3 seasons but somewhere after that I lost interest.

Then I saw a hot guy tied up to a scarecrow pole one day on a billboard many years ago on my way to work and my love for Smallville was born. That also only lasted about 3 seasons and actually as much as I had originally loved the fandom, it was the very same thing that turned me off from the show. I still haven’t watched the remaining seasons.

I did pick up a lovely hobby during Smallville though, the hobby of vidding. Vidding is when you hear a song on the radio and you automatically think of scenes from your favorite show that will fit perfectly with the song. So you spend hours finding source material you can use to put together a music video that matches your vision whatever that maybe.

I have 3 songs I want to use for Supernatural and I had a hard time finding source material so I splurged and bought almost all of the Seasons on DVD because FYE and Amazon had them on sale. I haven’t spent this much on myself for something frivolous in a long time. It’s actually kind of exciting for me and I find it’s giving me something to look forward to so I can have a creative outlet that I really enjoy to work on for a little while.

What are some of your hobbies that you do and enjoy but other people probably wouldn’t get? Do you hide them as your guilty pleasure or do you flaunt them for all to see?
